The practice is a one man band - and far removed from the swish "city" type of architectural practices that seem in fashion. I'm able to offer a friendly and professional service which uses all the latest technology when it's appropriate, but engages with the real world of timber, stone, bricks and mortar that go into building most houses. You will also find a real drawing board in my office, which I use for about half of my drawing work.
I offer all types of architectural services, from designing extensions, work on listed buildings, renovations and refurbishments through to complete new homes and developments. I can be involved with all (or any) of the following:- initial concept, refinement of designs, all aspects of gaining Planning Permission, Building Regulation Approval and, if required, a full involvement in overseeing the construction process.
I work regularly with several local builders whose work is of a quality I'm happy to recommend. This is a busy practice that runs on recommendation.
I love old buildings but also have an affinity for new design and the inclusion of "green" technology. I enjoy my work tremendously and would be delighted to talk to you about any architectural project you may be considering!
Over the last few years I've been involved in a wide range of types of contract - At one end of the scale I designed much of the new work and restoration at a farm in Dorset (Total budget circa £9,000,000.00), whilst at the other end of the scale I also design many modest extensions on local houses. I've designed homeless shelters and given my time to a local charity to design a school in Africa built from local materials. At the moment most of my work is on residential properties and most often on extensions.
Past customers of my design work (many for furniture designs - some unwittingly!) include Kate Bush, Noel Gallagher (Oasis), Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Malcolm Young (AC/DC), Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) and Brian Ferry.
Nowadays I'm mainly to be found designing a blend of very traditional vernacular style with modern elements such as discrete areas of extensive glazing. It's also my ambition to be able to produce a very traditional looking house that rates very highly on the Code for Sustainable Homes or Passivhaus.
A percentage of my work is now done "at a distance" and I'm happy to work this way. I've just completed the concept designs for a house in Gran Canaria which a local architect will now take to planning.
Hope all of this proves to be of interest!
